Psychotherapeutic Counselling

Counselling is a term that can be used to describe any sort of talking therapy.

So what is talking therapy?

Talking therapy is sharing what is troubling you in a safe, supportive environment to a person who is trained to listen and respond in a way that helps you to understand yourself and others better.  Talking therapy can help you find more effective ways to live a satisfying life.  It proceeds in a manner that fits the client.  It can be open ended or structured, short term or long term.

A psychotherapeutic counsellor can offer both traditional counselling and psychotherapeutic counselling.  What distinguishes Psychotherapeutic counselling from traditional counselling is the emphasis it places on the depth of the therapeutic relationship jointly created by therapist and client.

In psychotherapeutic counselling this relationship is a central factor.  The therapist and client together form a working therapeutic partnership where they look at the client's mind, body and soul in the context of the person's circumstances and where they are in life.  It can lead to profound changes and deep healing.
