Brief Strategic Therapy

This is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change which focuses on addressing what clients want to achieve without exploring the history and underlying roots of problem(s). Sessions typically focus on the present and future.

The client is invited to describe in detail how the future will be different when the presenting problem is no longer present. The therapist will then draw on the client's existing values, beliefs and strengths to move the therapy forward towards the client's desired objective. Where the desired attribute is exhibited in one part of the client's life it can then be transferred-generalized to the area where new behavior is desired.

The therapy is brief and focused and achieves measurable change in a short space of time. The goal is for the client to repeat what has worked in the past in other situations, and the therapist provides support and confidence as the client takes steps to move towards their ideal scenario.
