We live in a culture where us are taught to get on with life and cope with things ourselves.

We are also taught that it is "strong" to hold emotions in and "weak" to show them!

However the opposite is true - it takes strength and courage to show emotion and deal with situations.

How we deal with them of course is another matter!

Most therapies try to unravel problems to see their cause - whereas the therapy that I do acknowledges the past, but accepts that we can change things by moving forward from where we are now - looking for solutions.

If this sounds like something you might want to try then please do get in touch - or if you wish to try alternatives to counselling there are some listed on the links page.

This therapy accepts the past is important - but that a different way forward to other therapies is possible.

We believe that by looking to the future you can begin to move in the direction that you would like to go in - and that by altering behaviour and thought in the present helps you get there.

We look for exceptions - times when things go better than other times or when you do not feel so bothered by something; generally, by doing more of the things that make things better you automatically improve your situation. It is an approach that recognises you have the skills and abilities that you need - you may just have lost your way temporarily.

My role then is to help you find solutions from your own skill base - you are after all the expert in your own life!

This is an approach used increasingly in the UK as a whole and also within the NHS  - so a perspective recognised and practiced widely.

As with anything on this site please feel free to contact me if you have any queries - you will also find links to sites with more information in the link section.
